Doctors for America (DFA) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, progressive medical organization committed to expanding access to care in New York State (NYS) and throughout the country. In 2023, DFA and the Science, Health and Information Clinic (SHIC) published a guide, How New York's Telehealth Shield Law Protects Abortion Care: A Guide for Clinicians. The guide educates clinicians on how New York's shield laws protect them from liability for providing abortion care via telehealth to patients across state lines.
DFA and SHIC are now turning their attention to gender-affirming care (GAC). As part of DFA’s efforts to help clinicians understand the legal protections for gender-affirming care that currently exist in New York, we hope to gather information on the current landscape of GAC and clinicians’ needs.
