Thinking, Acting, and Feeling Like a Nurse: The Relationship Between the Experiences and the Professional Identities of Direct Care Registered Nurses

Overview:
The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between the experiences of direct care registered nurses (also known as bedside nurses) and their professional identities, or how they see themselves as nurses. We also want to examine how these experiences may have influenced their past career choices or how they may affect their future career plans.

We will conduct virtual one-on-one interviews with each participant about their experiences as a direct care RN. The interview will include questions about their career path, employer, coworkers, managers, and what being a nurse means to them. We will also ask some demographic questions to learn more about the participant and about their workplace. The total time will be about 60–90 minutes.
