Dissertation Recruitment for Study on LGBTQ+ Media Representation and Queer Women's Sense of Belonging
Overview:
My name is Nicole Christodoulou, and I am a clinical psychology doctoral student at the Wright Institute in Berkeley, CA. I am looking for volunteer participants to participate in my dissertation research.
Participants who meet the criteria for this study will take a 10 to 15 min survey about their experiences consuming television shows, movies, and/or books/audiobooks with LGBTQ+ representation and their sense of belonging as a queer woman. When you complete the study, you will have the chance to enter a raffle for a $25 gift card. Eight participants will win a $25 gift card.
Authentic media representation reflects and validates the lived experiences of individuals. While the media is becoming more diverse, there is still progress to be made, especially with the current political attacks on LGBTQ+ rights. This study seeks to explore the relationship between media representation and queer women’s sense of belonging.
Participants must:
-Be over the age of 18
-Identify as queer or part of the LGBTQ+ community
-Identify as a woman
-Currently live in the United States
-Be able to read and write in English
-Watch television shows, movies, and/or read books/audiobooks
Your participation is voluntary, you may skip any questions that make you feel uncomfortable, and you can end the survey at any time. You will be asked to share your age group, race/ethnicity, sexuality, and gender identity. The survey is on a HIPAA-certified site called Qualtrics, and strict measures will be taken to protect your confidentiality. All data will be securely stored on password-protected devices. This study is approved by the Institutional Review Board, which means it complies with ethical regulations for human participants. For questions about IRB approval, contact Virginia Morgan at IRB@wi.edu.
