The experiences of an inpatient mental health admission in the UK, of those who identify as transgender, gender diverse and/or non-binary
Overview:
Experiences of admission within an inpatient mental health setting as someone who identifies as transgender, gender diverse and/or non-binary. You will be asked some questions about your gender identity and your experience of your inpatient admission. You will also be asked some questions about what was helpful and good about your experiences and what was less helpful and what may need improvement. This research aims to help improve mental health support in inpatient settings for transgender, gender diverse and/or non-binary individuals.
If common themes about inpatient mental health admissions are generated by responses to this research, it may aid a greater understanding of gender diverse inpatient needs, how these needs can be met, and how an accepting, inclusive, and safe environment can be created for those who identify as gender diverse within inpatient mental health settings. It is the purpose of this study to provide space for an under-represented population’s voice to be heard, to support evidence-based changes within systems and improve care for transgender, gender diverse and/or non-binary individuals.
