Moral Distress Among Providers for Transgender and Gender-Diverse Youth: Impact of State Legislation and Institutional Policies

Overview:
The purpose of this study is to conduct a national cross-sectional survey to assess gender-affirming care (GAC) providers’ experiences with caring for transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) youth in the context of varying state laws and institutional policies. Specifically, this study will examine:

1. How providers' clinical practices have changed in response to legal and institutional shifts regarding GAC.
2. How providers across different states experience moral distress related to GAC and the impact of policy/legislation on their practice.
3. What resources providers need to provide GAC safely and effectively in states with varying legal landscapes.

The findings from this survey will help inform future policy recommendations and improve access to equitable care for TGD youth.
