Study Project: A Multi-Method Exploration of Multilevel Factors Influencing Primary Care Provider Practice for Transgender and Gender Diverse Patients
Overview:
The study aims to gain a better understanding of how primary care providers experienced in caring for transgender and gender diverse patients operationalize their practice and the multiple factors that influence and inform care delivery. The research seeks to address a critical gap in understanding how primary care providers deliver non-stigmatizing and high-quality health care to TGD individuals. Health care providers (e.g., nurse practitioners, midwifes, physicians, physician assistants, etc.) who have worked or are currently working in the primary or community care setting and have experience caring for transgender and gender diverse adults are invited to participate in the study. Participation involves completion of a confidential, online survey that takes about 10-15 minutes to complete, with an optional 30-60 minute interview component to further discuss provider experiences and practice with this community. Findings from this study will offer important insights into how to deliver high-quality care for transgender and gender diverse patients that can be applied in a variety of practice settings, with the ultimate goal of identifying actionable strategies to support improved care delivery, thus advancing health equity for TGD communities.
