GLMA is thrilled to announce several significant milestones in the growth and development of the LGBTQ+ Healthcare Directory. The directory is a partnership project with our colleagues at the Tegan and Sara Foundation, and is dedicated to improving healthcare access and equity for the LGBTQ+ community.
It's been an exhilarating year since the directory first launched! Let's take a quick look at some of our achievements:
FastCompany's Innovative Design Award: We are honored to receive this recognition in the Social Justice category! It highlights our commitment to improving healthcare access and equity for the LGBTQ+ community. We extend a heartfelt thank you to the Wide Eye Design team for their exceptional work and dedication in spearheading the directory’s design efforts. For a deeper understanding of the directory's purposeful design, take a look at the Wide Eye case study.
Impressive Numbers: Since its launch, the LGBTQ+ Healthcare Directory has connected more than 2,700 providers through 43,000 searches across all 50 states. With over 60,000 engaged users, the demand for our services is undeniable.
Enhanced Search Functionality: We've made it easier than ever to find healthcare providers. Users can now search by state in addition to zip codes. This update ensures a more robust search experience, especially for those impacted by restrictions to gender-affirming care.
Remote Healthcare Services: Recognizing the need for accessible care, our directory now features a dedicated search option for providers offering virtual and telehealth appointments. No matter where you are, inclusive healthcare is just a click away.
International Reach: Our directory already covers providers in 10 out of 13 Canadian provinces, and we're constantly expanding our presence across North America! Stay tuned for more exciting updates as we continue to forge connections between patients and providers throughout the United States and Canada.
Recognized by Institutions: Our success has led to widespread adoption as a primary resource by institutions and state governments, including Arizona, Vermont, and Massachusetts. Together, we are closing the gaps in care for the LGBTQ+ population.
"These updates are a testament to our ongoing commitment to LGBTQ+ health equity,” said GLMA Executive Director Alex Sheldon, reflecting on the LGBTQ+ Healthcare Directory's first year. “We are determined to ensure every individual has access to health care that respects their identity and meets their unique needs. We are living through an unprecedented, highly-coordinated attack on LGBTQ+ health care, and we will continue to refine our platform and services in response, driven by feedback and the evolving needs of the LGBTQ+ community. Our goal is to create an ecosystem where no one feels marginalized when seeking health care."
The LGBTQ+ Healthcare Directory's first year has been a remarkable success. The platform's ability to adapt and evolve in response to the shifting needs of the LGBTQ+ population has resulted in an impactful and resourceful healthcare guide. This unwavering commitment to health equity has positioned the directory as a beacon of support for those seeking LGBTQ+-affirming care.
Taking into account these achievements, Jessica Halem, Tegan and Sara Foundation Board Member, said, “As a longtime advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, I firmly believe that access to affirming and high-quality healthcare is a fundamental right. The LGBTQ+ Healthcare Directory is a significant stride towards ensuring that right is available and accessible to all. The improvements made to the directory, the addition of telehealth services, and expansion of search capabilities are monumental steps that echo our deep commitment towards inclusivity and equality in healthcare."
GLMA extends our deepest gratitude to our partners, supporters, and users who have been instrumental in advancing the LGBTQ+ Healthcare Directory. With this united support and heartfelt dedication to our mission, we strive towards a future where accessible and affirming healthcare is accessible to all individuals.
