During his remarks at the luncheon, Gal stressed the importance of GLMA’s mission to advance LGBT health equality amidst a hostile political climate. “We live in turbulent times and it seems like our current administration is pitching curve balls every day, practicing a form of politics that ignores basic principles of social justice,” he said. “So it’s hard to predict exactly what the next two years will look like, except that they’ll be a lot of work…[f]ighting those federal curve balls from Washington, and in various local jurisdictions that threaten the healthcare and wellness of LGBTQ+ individuals.” Gal also shared his deep appreciation on behalf of GLMA to outgoing GLMA President Jesse Joad, MD, MS, who will continue to serve as an officer of the board. Gal is an internist and HIV specialist who has been dedicated to improving the fields of LGBT health and HIV medicine for the past 20 years. He currently works as an HIV Prevention Medical Scientist for Gilead Sciences, and served previously as the Medical Director of New York’s Callen-Lorde Community Health Center. |
