Health Professionals in Training (HPiT) Program
Curriculum Reform Committee Overview

Applications forthcoming in Fall 2024

Goals of the Curriculum Reform Committee (CRC)

  • Assess the state of LGBTQ+ curricular inclusion across various healthcare disciplines.
  • Create a centralized resource for students seeking to create curricular change in their own institutions, including content and skill building resources.
  • Foster GLMA’s relationships with external organizations working on health care education reform.

Why apply?

Curricular reform combines advocacy and education while keeping those involved up to date on the clinical forefront of LGBTQ+ health. This committee’s efforts will provide its advocates with exposure to national health professional groups, knowledge of clinical best practices across disciplines, and the skills to advocate within health systems.

The Health Professionals in Training Committee is an interprofessional organization that values the contributions of all allied health professions, including but not limited to:

  • Dentistry (DDS/DMD)
  • Genetic Counseling (MGCS)
  • Medical (MD/DO) Residents and Students
  • Nursing (BSN, ADN, LPN, DNP, or MSN)
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Pharmacy
  • Physical Therapy
  • Podiatry
  • Psychology/Mental Health Professionals (PhD, MSW)
  • Public Health (MPH, MHA, other public health-related Masters or PhDs)
  • Respiratory Therapy

What's the commitment?

The sub-committees will meet monthly for an hour long conference call. The full committee will likely meet for one hour once per month of every other month depending on needs and preferences of the group. We anticipate that additional duties outside of meetings may take up to 1-3 hours per week, depending on your assigned role and pending deadlines. We understand academic priorities come first and the committee will be flexible to accommodate schedules.

No more than 2 unexcused absences are allowed within 1 year. Excusable absences may include school-related conflicts, health-related conflicts, family emergencies, the death of a close family member, partner/significant other, or close friend, or other reasons that the chair(s) deem excusable. All other excuses are considered unexcused and are subject to this policy. Please communicate your circumstances and we will endeavor to be flexible.
