Curricular reform combines advocacy and education while keeping those involved up to date on the evolving landscape of LGBTQ+ health. This Committee’s efforts will provide its members with exposure to peers and mentors across health fields and will develop a knowledge base of clinical best practices across disciplines, while building practical skills to enable advocacy within and across US health systems.
The HPiT Curriculum Reform Committee is an interprofessional project that values the contributions of all allied health professions, including but not limited to trainees in:
The curriculum reform committee operates with multiple subcommittees that are each committed to a specific project or topic. The subcommittees will meet monthly via a virtual platform for about one hour . The full committee will likely meet for one hour monthly or once every other month depending on needs and preferences of the group. We anticipate that additional duties outside of meetings may take up to 1-3 hours per month, depending on your assigned role and pending deadlines. We understand academic priorities come first and the committee will be flexible to accommodate schedules.
No more than 2 unexcused absences are allowed within 1 year. Excusable absences may include school-related conflicts, health-related conflicts, family emergencies, the death of a close family member, partner/significant other, or close friend, or other reasons that the chair(s) deem excusable. All other excuses are considered unexcused and are subject to this policy. Please communicate your circumstances and we will endeavor to be flexible.
For all positions, trans, gender nonconforming, and BIPOC students are especially encouraged to apply.
Committee members will be assigned to one subcommittee and are responsible for attending all subcommittee and large committee meetings to actively assist with creating and implementing projects and goals. This will involve small group collaboration and providing feedback to the work being undertaken by other small groups.
Time commitments:
1 hour per month for subcommittee meeting
1 hour per month or every other month for full committee meeting (to be determined based on needs and preferences of the group)
1+ hour(s) per month for subcommittee project work outside of meetings
Subcommittee leaders will be in charge of scheduling and running monthly meetings for their subcommittee group and collaborating with other subcommittee leaders. Subcommittee members are expected to provide updates at routine full committee meetings about their respective projects and will be responsible for providing brief, written quarterly updates to the curriculum reform committee chair(s).
Time commitments:
1+ hour per month for sub-committee meeting - responsible for organizing and running meetings
1+ hour(s) per month for organizational and administrative work outside of routine meetings
1 hour per month or every other month for full committee meeting (to be determined based on needs and preferences of the group)
1+ hour(s) per month for sub-committee project work outside of meetings
Co-chairs oversee the full curriculum reform committee and will be in charge of scheduling and running full committee meetings about monthly or every other month (frequency of meetings may depend on needs and preferences of the group). Co-chairs serve as the liaison between all other committee members and the HPiT co-chairs and GLMA team. This includes compiling and submitting quarterly updates about all curriculum reform committee activities to the HPiT co-chairs. Co-chairs are responsible for organizing subcommittees and ensuring that all subcommittees have the resources and guidance needed to work on their respective project. Co-chairs are also responsible for administrative work associated with the full curriculum reform committee including: maintaining the Curriculum Reform Committee email, sending relevant announcements (e.g., annual GLMA conference call for abstracts) to the Curriculum Reform Committee, and maintaining records of the participants and activities of the year. Co-chairs are responsible for participating in the finalizing of the application for the next committee year, and are responsible for reviewing all applications and identifying the co-chairs, sub-committee leaders, and committee members for the subsequent year.
Time commitments:
2+ hour(s) per month for organizational and administrative work outside of routine meetings â this is often 6+ hours per month during September - December (with additional duties surrounding recruitment of next committee, developing application, and reviewing applications) and January - March (with additional duties related to the start of the committee year, establishing sub-committees and identifying projects for the year)
1+ hour per month or every other month for full committee meeting (to be determined based on needs and preferences of the group) - responsible for organizing and running meeting
