Health Professionals in Training (HPiT) Program
Health Trainee Fellowship Overview

Applications forthcoming in Fall 2024

Goals of the Fellowship:

Build a peer network of knowledge-sharing to leverage LGBTQ+ health involvement and capacity building.

Why apply?

GLMA Health Trainee Fellows will build community and networks among LGBTQ+ trainees and health advocates by serving as a resource of expertise and experience. Too often, it's difficult to get involved in LGBTQ+ health initiatives despite someone’s interest. Through this role, you can share your experience and knowledge while building community among LGBTQ+ health professionals. Additionally, you will gain leadership experience as you develop initiatives for a national audience, and learn how to work within the framework of a non-profit health advocacy organization.

What's the commitment?

Fellows are expected to engage GLMA Health Professionals in Training (HPiT) members with some type of outreach activity three times per year. Fellows may partner with each other for engagement activities. Engagement can take the form of:

  • Posting about an LGBTQ+ health resource.
  • Hosting a virtual networking event.
  • Leading a queer health skills building workshop.
  • Making a space for queer trainees in health care.
  • Other ideas you may have as approved by the HPiT co-chairs.

Other responsibilities include:
  • Be responsive to check-in calls and emails to share ideas and find areas for collaboration. Fellows are expected to practice professional courtesy by replying to all digital communications within 3 business days.
  • Complete requests from committee co-chairs about ongoing initiatives (i.e. respond to a survey) and other HPiT work.
  • Posts can take the form of conversation threads, news and opinion reposts, scholarly article shares; creativity is encouraged!

The responsibilities of the Health Trainee Fellow will likely take 4-8 hours to complete per trimester.
