Health Professionals in Training (HPiT) Program
HPiT Committee Member Overview

Now Open for 2026 (Open until Filled)

HPiT Committee

HPiT Committee members build LGBTQ+ health advocacy community by serving as a resource for GLMA student and trainee members and empowering others interested in attaining similar accomplishments.

HPiT Committee members are selected for a one-year term, from June to June. This timeline is intended to be staggered from the Co-Chair terms in order to smooth the onboarding process between transitions.

Monthly Open Meetings

Committee members are responsible for content development for the HPiT monthly open meetings. If a committee member or cochair is unable to fulfill their responsibilities, it is their job to ensure adequate coverage by the other cochair or committee members for all agenda, facilitation and content sourcing duties. These meetings are designed to help educate and encourage community and collaboration for Health Professionals in Training. While these meetings are the domain of HPiT, committee members should keep in mind that they are representing GLMA at these events, and maintain alignment with the policies and position statements held by the organization.

Annual Conference Programming

HPiT Committee members assist HPiT Co-chairs develop student/trainee programming at the GLMA Annual Conference and support fellow members in navigating this experience, usually in the form of a breakfast or other social event. While attendance at the Annual Conference is not required, it is strongly recommended, and HPiT committee members are encouraged to apply for scholarship funding to attend.

Why Apply?

GLMA HPiT Committee members will build community and networks among LGBTQ+ trainees and health advocates by serving as a resource of expertise and experience. Too often, it’s difficult to get involved in LGBTQ+ health initiatives despite someone’s interest. Through this role, you can share your experience and knowledge while building community among LGBTQ+ health professionals and future health professionals. Additionally, you will gain leadership experience as you develop initiatives for a national audience, build networks with health professionals and future health professionals nationwide, and learn how to work within the framework of a non-profit health advocacy organization.

What’s the Commitment?

HPiT Committee members are expected to engage GLMA Health Professionals in Training (HPiT) members monthly through open meetings. While each Committee member is not expected to plan and run every meeting, the open meetings are responsible for the agenda and facilitation of the monthly meetings, so the division of responsibilities will be determined by the Committee and HPiT co-chairs. Committee members should plan on attending the monthly open meetings, monthly Leadership meetings between HPiT co-chairs, committee members, and the GLMA staff liaison, and setting aside time for agenda building, content creation, and/or speaker sourcing. Examples of monthly meeting topics could be:

  • Creating a queer health skills building workshop
  • Recruiting and hosting a health professional to share their experiences
  • Facilitating conversation between HPiT members on current experiences and how organizations, mentors, and communities could better support them
  • Other ideas you may have as approved by the HPiT co-chairs
